Abhimanyu Easwaran continues to impress in domestic cricket, scoring a century during the 2024 Duleep Trophy match between India B and India C, held in Anantapur. As captain of the India B team, Easwaran made history by becoming the first player in 21 years to achieve a rare cricketing milestone.
Even though he is still waiting for his debut in the Indian Test team, Easwaran showcased his exceptional form in the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy. During the match at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, he scored the 24th century of his first-class career, playing a captain’s knock of 157 against India C.
Leading the Fight
Despite his team struggling, with Anshul Kamboj dismantling the batting lineup, Easwaran stood strong. While well-known players like Sarfaraz Khan and Rinku Singh couldn’t make an impact, Easwaran was the last man standing with his impressive unbeaten 157.
Abhimanyu Easwaran’s Historic Feat
India C had posted a massive total of 525 runs, but Easwaran led his team with a crucial inning. India B was all out for 332 runs, conceding a lead of 193. His opening partner, Narayan Jagadeesan, gave some support with a solid 70-run knock, forming a 129-run partnership with Easwaran. However, none of the other batters managed to score more than 26 runs.
Easwaran became only the 7th player in Duleep Trophy history to “carry his bat” throughout an innings, joining names like Aakash Chopra, Wasim Jaffer, and Gautam Gambhir. He is the first player to do this in 21 years, and his 157 is the second-highest score by anyone who carried their bat in the 63-year history of the competition.
What Does “Carrying the Bat” Mean?
