Bangladesh Cricket Board Director Resigns Amid Political Unrest Before India Test Series

Khaled Mahmud, the director of cricket for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has resigned from his position due to the current political unrest in Bangladesh. This decision comes just before the team is set to travel to India for a two-match Test series.

Khaled Mahmud’s Career with BCB

Mahmud, who became a BCB director after defeating Gazi Ashraf Hossain in the 2013 election, served three terms in the role. However, due to the country’s political situation, he had to resign before finishing his latest term. The political shift also affected the board’s operations, following the earlier resignation of Nazmul Hassan, the former BCB president.

During his time with BCB, Mahmud held several important roles, including chairman of the game development committee. One of his major achievements was helping the Bangladesh Under-19 team win the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2020. Additionally, he served as the national cricket team’s interim head coach and team manager on various occasions.

Several other BCB directors, such as Jalal Yunus, Shafiul Alam Chowdhury, and Naimur Rahman, also resigned around the same time as Mahmud.

Bangladesh Cricket Team’s Upcoming Tour

After recently defeating Pakistan in a historic two-match Test series, Bangladesh is set to travel to India for another two-Test series starting on September 19. The first Test will be held at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, followed by the second Test at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, beginning on September 27. India’s squad for the first match includes Jasprit Bumrah, who is making his return after the T20 World Cup 2024 final.
