England All-Rounder Moeen Ali Retires from International Cricket

England’s all-rounder Moeen Ali has decided to retire from international cricket. He made this announcement after not being selected for the upcoming series against Australia.

Moeen Ali Announces His Decision

In an interview with The Daily Mail, the 37-year-old Ali explained that it was “time for the next generation.” He shared that he feels this is the right moment to step away from the game. “I have done my part,” Ali said.

Ali’s Cricket Journey

Moeen Ali played 68 Test matches, 138 One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 92 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for England. He was also part of the team that won the World Cup in both ODIs and T20s.

Reflecting on His Future

While Ali still believes he can perform at a high level, he admitted that he has to be “realistic” about his future in international cricket. “I could try to stay and play for England again, but I know it won’t happen,” he said.

Recent Changes in the Team

Last month, England’s limited-overs coach Matthew Mott was removed after England’s disappointing performance in the ODI and T20 World Cup. This desire for change has also affected senior players like Moeen Ali and Jonny Bairstow, who together have over 400 matches between them.

Moeen Ali has also been a key vice-captain to England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler in recent years. England is set to play against Australia in an eight-match white-ball series starting Wednesday with a T20 game in Southampton.
