209 vs Australia (2013)
Rohit Sharma’s first double century came on November 2, 2013, when he scored 209 against Australia in Bangalore. At the time, he was only the third player to achieve this milestone, following in the footsteps of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.
As an opener, Sharma played cautiously at the start, reaching his century off 114 balls. But his next 109 runs came at an astonishing pace, from just 42 balls, with 12 fours and a record 16 sixes. Sharma’s partnership with Shikhar Dhawan added 112 runs for the first wicket, and his knock helped India post 383/6. Australia put up a fight but were bowled out for 326. Sharma finished the series with 491 runs, averaging an impressive 122.
264 vs Sri Lanka (2014)
On November 13, 2014, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Rohit Sharma scored 264 off 173 balls against Sri Lanka – the highest individual score in ODI history, a record that still stands.
After a cautious start, reaching 50 off 72 balls, Sharma shifted gears. His century came from 100 balls, but the following 164 runs were scored off just 73 balls, hitting 33 fours and 9 sixes. India ended their innings at 404/5, and Sri Lanka could only muster 251, giving India a dominant 153-run victory.
208* vs Sri Lanka (2017)
Rohit Sharma scored his third double century on December 13, 2017, when he made an unbeaten 208 against Sri Lanka in Mohali. This achievement made him the only player in history with three ODI double centuries.
Captaining the Indian team, Sharma built his innings slowly, reaching his century off 115 balls. He then launched an attack, scoring 108 runs in the last 36 balls, hitting 13 fours and 12 sixes. India posted 392/4, and Sri Lanka managed only 251/8 in their 50 overs.
