Indian star batter Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the best players of his generation. Throughout his career, people have often compared him to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Over time, many debates have focused on who is the better batter between Kohli and Tendulkar.
Kohli has been chasing the milestone of 100 centuries for a long time, but now he is on the verge of achieving another big record. With 26,942 runs scored in all formats, Kohli is just 58 runs away from reaching 27,000 runs. He has played 591 innings so far, and currently, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the fastest to reach 27,000 runs.
Kohli Could Break Tendulkar’s Record
Tendulkar took 623 innings (226 in Tests, 396 in ODIs, and 1 in T20Is) to reach 27,000 runs. If Kohli scores 58 runs in his next eight innings, he will break Tendulkar’s record and become the fastest cricketer to reach this milestone. Kohli would also be the only player in international cricket’s 147-year history to achieve this in just 600 innings.
Few Players Have Reached 27,000 Runs
Other than Tendulkar, only two other batters—Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting—have scored more than 27,000 runs in their careers.
India is about to face Bangladesh in a multi-format series, including two Test matches. The first Test will take place in Chennai on September 19. If Kohli scores the required runs during these Tests, he will break Tendulkar’s record. After the Chennai Test, the second match will be played in Kanpur, followed by three T20Is to conclude the series.
