PV Sindhu’s father, PV Ramana, has announced that she has a new coach who has a close connection with fellow badminton player Lakshya Sen. Despite facing disappointment at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Sindhu is ready to pursue success at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan. Ramana shared that Sindhu is motivated to continue competing, even though she has already achieved a lot in her career.
Aiming for More Glory
“Sindhu has nothing left to prove, but she still believes she can aim for the Asian Games,” Ramana told The Indian Express. Sindhu has already won silver and bronze medals at the Asian Games but is yet to secure a gold.
New Coaching Journey
Sindhu will be joined by former badminton player Anup Sridhar for her European tour. Sridhar previously coached Lakshya Sen until January 2024. After her contract with Indonesian coach Agus Dwi Santoso ended following the Olympics, Sindhu and her father decided it was time for a change.
“We are looking for a new coach after Agus’s contract ended. We want to see how the partnership with Anup Sridhar works out, and we are considering 4-5 other names for the future. Anup will travel to Finland and will train her in Hyderabad in the coming days,” Ramana said.
Previous Coach’s Departure
Ramana also mentioned that they considered former coach Park Tae-Sung from Korea but decided not to continue with him. “It wasn’t a bad split. Both Sindhu and I felt that the partnership wasn’t working and not giving the desired results,” he explained. Under Park’s guidance, Sindhu won two Commonwealth Games gold medals and a bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Upcoming Competitions
Sridhar will accompany Sindhu to the Arctic Open in Finland, starting on October 8, and the Denmark Open, which begins on October 15.
