The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is introducing a new method for selecting cricket players using artificial intelligence (AI). This decision comes after recent disappointing performances by the national team.
AI-Driven Selection
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced that AI will play a major role in choosing players from domestic cricket. This approach aims to improve the team’s performance by relying on data rather than just human judgment.
- AI’s Role: AI will be responsible for 80% of player selection. The remaining 20% will involve human input from the selection committee.
- Current Situation: Naqvi mentioned that the current system lacks solid data and a reliable pool of players, which has been a problem.
Pakistan Cricket Board Challenges and Solutions
- Recent Performance: The national team’s poor performance, including a recent loss to Bangladesh, highlighted the need for a change.
- Future Plans: The Champions Cup, which ends in September, will provide valuable data and help build a stronger pool of around 150 players.
Transparency and Accountability
Naqvi stressed that the AI-driven process will be transparent, allowing everyone to see who deserves a spot on the team. He emphasized that replacing underperforming players will be based on solid data, not personal opinions.
