India’s openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal broke the record of fastest fifty in Test cricket when they batted against Bangladesh on Day 4 of the second Test in Kanpur. After bowling Bangladesh out for 233 runs in the first innings, Rohit and Jaiswal came out with an aggressive approach. They attacked the Bangladeshi bowlers from the start, hitting boundaries and sixes to reach the 50-run mark in just three overs. This was the first time a team scored 50 runs within the first three overs of a Test match since records began.
Previously, England held the record for the fastest fifty in Test cricket, scoring 50 runs in 26 balls against West Indies earlier this year at Trent Bridge. However, India shattered this record by reaching the fifty in just 18 balls. Before this match, India’s fastest team fifty in Tests was against England in Chennai in 2008, achieved in 5.2 overs.

Team India’s Aggressive Style
Test cricket is considered the traditional format of the game, but England’s recent attacking performances have earned them the nickname ‘Bazball.’ However, with India’s attacking display against Bangladesh in the first three overs, they showed that they could match or surpass England’s aggressive style depending on the situation.
Bangladesh’s First Innings
Earlier in the match, Bangladesh were bowled out for 233 runs on the fourth day of the second Test. Mominul Haque remained unbeaten on 107 as Bangladesh took 74.2 overs to complete their innings. Starting the day at 205 for 6, Bangladesh added just 28 more runs while losing four wickets.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah led the attack with three wickets (3/50), while Akash Deep (2/43), Ravichandran Ashwin (2/45), and Mohammed Siraj (2/57) shared six wickets among them. Ravindra Jadeja also achieved a significant milestone, reaching 300 wickets in Test cricket.
