The second Test match between India and Bangladesh is set to start on September 27. Bangladesh’s management has some time to evaluate Shakib Al Hasan’s finger injury before deciding if he can play. Shakib got injured while batting in the first Test in Chennai, when he was hit by a fast ball from Jasprit Bumrah. The experienced all-rounder also bowled less than usual, delivering only 21 overs across both innings due to the injury.
Decision Pending on Shakib’s Fitness
Bangladesh’s selection panel member, Hannan Sarkar, mentioned that the final decision on Shakib’s availability will be made after the team trains in Kanpur. Sarkar shared that the team will head to Kanpur on Tuesday and have two practice sessions there. “We don’t want to make a decision yet,” Hannan said during a press meet in Chennai on Monday.

Time for Further Observation
The team physio has been monitoring Shakib closely for the past two days. Sarkar added that they are waiting for the physio’s report before making any decisions about Shakib’s inclusion in the second Test. “We need to think carefully before selecting him, but we still have time before the match,” Sarkar said.
Shakib Was Fully Fit Before the First Test
Hannan Sarkar emphasized that Shakib was completely fit before the Chennai Test, and the physio had cleared him to play. “There was no issue with his hand before the game, and we received full clearance from the physio,” he explained. However, the discomfort appeared when Shakib started bowling, which was unexpected.
