From pioneers such as Jack Hobbs and W.C. Grace to present-day stars like James Anderson and Stuart Broad, England continues to produce top cricket talent. Choosing the greatest players ever is difficult, but we’ve taken on the challenge.

10. Joe Root (2012 – Present)

Joe Root, who is 32 years old, is making a big name for himself as one of England’s best batsmen. He has scored 10,948 runs in different types of cricket matches. He’s second only to Alastair Cook in England’s list of players with the most runs ever. He’s on track to make his mark in cricket history even stronger.

9. James Anderson (2003- 2024)

James Anderson has been a strong part of English cricket for more than 20 years. He has taken 460 wickets in 179 test matches, making him the most successful fast bowler ever. His skill and experience still make a big difference in matches today.

8. Sir Alastair Cook (2006-2018)

Sir Alastair Cook, a great figure in English cricket, set many records. He played the most test matches (161) for England, scored the most centuries (33), and made the most runs (12,472). When he retired in 2018, it marked the end of a significant cricketing era, confirming his place as one of the best batsmen ever.

7. Kevin Pietersen (2005-2014)

3. Wally Hammond (1927-1947)

W.G. Grace played cricket in England for 44 seasons. He scored 54,211 runs and took 2,809 wickets in first-class matches. He also hit 124 centuries. Although there was some debate about the types of matches he played, his influence on English cricket is unmatched, making him a true cricketing legend.
