In the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai, teams spent a lot of money to sign top players. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) spent the most, with INR 31.35 crore and 30.80 crore respectively. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the current champions, also caught attention by spending INR 30.40 crore.
Now, after five weeks of the IPL, fans want to know how these expensive players are doing. Let’s take a look at the performances of the top five costly players in the tournament so far.
Let’s look at how well the top five most expensive players did in the IPL 2024:
5. Alzarri Joseph
Alzarri Joseph, a cricket player from the West Indies, was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a huge amount of money, around 11.50 crore rupees. This made him the fifth most expensive player in the auction. However, RCB’s fans weren’t happy because he hasn’t played well in the league since 2019.
In the current tournament, Alzarri has only taken one wicket in three matches. RCB hoped he would strengthen their fast-bowling, but after a big loss to Kolkata, they haven’t let him play again
4. Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel got a lot of money, INR 11.75 crore, to play cricket for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2024. Fans hope he will play well and help the team win. Harshal has bowled well so far, taking 14 wickets in nine games. He is currently one of the best bowlers in the league. PBKS fans want him to keep playing well so the team can reach the playoffs after 10 years.
3. Daryl Mitchell
Daryl Mitchell from New Zealand is playing again in the IPL after two years. The CSK team paid 14 crore rupees to have him on their team because he did really well in the Cricket World Cup in 2023.
But, he hasn’t been doing as well as CSK hoped. In seven games, he only scored 146 runs, which isn’t great. His strike rate is only 123.72, and his average score is 24.33, which is not good at all.
2. Pat Cummins
After helping Australia win their sixth World Cup in 2023, Pat Cummins was expected to get a lot of money in the IPL 2024 auction. As predicted, he got a huge amount of INR 20.50 crore from SRH at the event in Dubai.
After signing Cummins, the IPL 2016 champions made him the captain of the team. Cummins has shown confidence both in his bowling and leadership. Under his captaincy, the Orange Army has won five out of eight games and is currently in third place. Talking about his bowling, the 30-year-old has taken 10 wickets in eight matches with an economy rate of 8.71.
1. Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc made headlines when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him for a lot of money, making him the most expensive player ever in IPL auctions. He’s supposed to be a key player in KKR’s fast bowling lineup, but so far, he hasn’t been doing very well.
In the seven matches he’s played, Starc has only taken six wickets, and he’s been giving away runs too easily. Even though he’s not performing great, KKR fans still believe in him because he’s got the talent and experience to turn things around and surprise everyone.
