5 Test Run-getters for India

India is one of the oldest countries to play cricket. They started playing Test cricket in 1932, becoming the sixth country to do so.

Since then, India has had many great cricketers who have taken the game to new levels with their talent and skills. Cricket in India is mostly popular because of the batsmen. India has produced many famous batsmen like Vinoo Mankad, Vijay Manjrekar, Polly Umrigar, Ajit Wadekar, Mansur Pataudi, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, and Virat Kohli. 1. Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar started as a child prodigy and ended his career as one of the best batters ever.

Tendulkar loved Test cricket and had excellent technique, making him a great role model for future batters, combining both aggression and restraint.

In the late 1990s, he was India’s main batter until other stars like Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and VVS Laxman joined him.

Over his 24-year Test career, Tendulkar played 200 matches, the most by any player, and scored 15,921 runs with 51 centuries and 65 fifties in all conditions and against all types of bowlers.

2. Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid showed his talent right from the start of his career in Test cricket. He scored a memorable hundred at Lord’s in his first Test match, which gave a big boost to his career.

Although he wasn’t naturally gifted, Dravid worked very hard behind the scenes to improve his skills. Because of this, he earned the nickname ‘The Wall’.

As the current coach of the Indian cricket team, Dravid played a big part in helping India win Test matches abroad. Even though he scored a lot of runs in challenging conditions, he was often overlooked because Sachin Tendulkar was so incredibly talented.

From 1996 to 2012, Dravid scored 13,265 runs, including 36 hundreds and 63 half-centuries, which brought a lot of pride to the nation.

3. Sunil Gavaskar

In a time when fast bowlers were dominant, Sunil Gavaskar from India became an excellent batsman. Without modern equipment or ideal playing conditions, Gavaskar showed outstanding skills as an opening batsman. He set new standards for batting technique and attitude. Known as the original ‘Little Master’, he changed the way people played Test cricket, setting and breaking records. He was the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs in Test matches. Gavaskar was known for his ability to stay at the crease for a long time and patiently score runs against tough opponents. He scored 10,122 runs in 125 Tests between 1971 and 1987, including 34 centuries and 45 half-centuries.

4. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, a great cricket player from India, has done really well with his batting skills. He loves playing Test cricket, which he showed during his early tours to Australia. Over time, he has become even better at batting and is now one of the best in India.

What makes Kohli stand out is his ability to control his batting style, whether he wants to be aggressive or play calmly. He’s good at facing both fast bowlers and spinners.

At 35 years old, Kohli has scored 8,790 runs in 112 Test matches. He has made 29 centuries and 30 half-centuries. He really loves playing and is dedicated to doing his best.

5. VVS Laxman

VVS Laxman, also known as Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman, started his cricket career slowly. At first, he wasn’t given a fixed batting position and had to adjust.

But things changed in the early 2000s. Laxman found his place in the team’s top order. He played brilliantly, impressing both opponents and fans with his stylish batting. Laxman became known as India’s go-to player when the team was in trouble during Test matches. He was especially good at batting with the lower-order players.

Throughout his career, which lasted from 1996 to 2012, Laxman scored 8,781 runs in 134 Test matches. He hit 17 centuries and 56 half-centuries.
