In an interesting twist in the transfer market, Manchester United has reportedly reached out to Sevilla regarding former defender Juanlu Sanchez. The 21-year-old caught everyone’s attention during the Olympic Games, where he played a key role in helping Spain secure a medal in a thrilling 5-3 win against France.
Juanlu’s Versatility on the Field
Though he mainly plays as a full-back, Juanlu has shown his ability to perform well in different positions, including central midfield. His impressive versatility hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Manchester United scouts have been following his progress during the tournament. This has led to talks between a senior figure from Manchester United and Sevilla’s sporting director, Victor Orta.
Interest Growing for Sanchez
According to ABC Sevilla, although no official offer has been made yet, Manchester United’s interest in Sanchez is clear. Under the new leadership of INEOS and sporting director Dan Ashworth, United is pursuing an aggressive recruitment strategy to secure talented young players, and Juanlu seems like a perfect fit. With his contract set to expire in 2026, Sevilla might consider offers for their promising player before negotiating a new deal later this year.

Other Clubs Eyeing Juanlu
Juanlu has also attracted interest from Osasuna in La Liga and Brighton in the Premier League. However, neither club made a move during the January transfer window. His release clause is set at €25 million (£21.1 million), which could become a key factor in any future deals starting in January.
Strong Start to the Season
Juanlu has already made a big impact this season, playing in all four of Sevilla’s La Liga matches, including a notable contribution to a 2-2 draw against Las Palmas. Despite being called into action due to injuries and suspensions, he has adapted quickly. Sevilla’s coach, Garcia Pimienta, praised his performances, saying: “He’s playing like an experienced international. We’re very happy with him, along with Saul Niguez and Albert Sambi Lokonga. I spoke to him and knew he would do well in this role. Juanlu has an amazing present and an even brighter future.”
Olympic Success
Notably, Juanlu also scored the decisive goal in the Olympic semi-final against Morocco, securing a 2-1 win for Spain and sending them into the final.
Manchester United’s Transfer Spending
Manchester United has been busy in the transfer window, investing a total of £205.9 million on five new signings. These include striker Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, defender Leny Yoro from Lille, and a double deal with Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, along with Manuel Ugarte from Sporting CP.
