FC Barcelona, Real Madrid or Atlético Madrid. These are all football clubs in Spain that are currently successful and are currently playing in the Spanish Primera División called La Liga, the Spanish top division. But who is really the most successful in the history of Spanish club football?

Measured by titles such as the championship, Copa del Rey, the Spanish Super Cup, but also international titles such as the Champions League or Europa League, we have compiled the top 10 most successful football clubs in Spain. One or the other team will surprise many, but read for yourself.

10. RCD Espanyol

Founded on October 28, 1900, RCD Espanyol is one of the oldest clubs in Spain, based in Barcelona, Catalonia. Also known as the “Parakeets” or Periquitos, their home ground is the Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, which holds 40,500 fans. Espanyol has reached the UEFA Cup final twice, in 1988 and 2007. The club has won the Copa del Rey four times. Although they played in the second division during the 2020/21 season, they were promoted back to La Liga.

Real Sociedad was founded on September 7, 1909, and is based in San Sebastián, Basque Country. Known as the Txuriurdin or “White and Blue,” their home stadium is the Anoeta Stadium, with a capacity of 32,200. Real Sociedad has won 2 La Liga titles, 2 Copa del Rey trophies, and the Supercopa de España in the 2021/22 season. They also compete in the Basque derby against Athletic Bilbao.
