Former Indian fast bowler, Zaheer Khan, has been named the mentor for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. This will be his return to the IPL’s management side after a two-year break.
Previous Experience and New Challenges
Zaheer previously worked with the Mumbai Indians for five seasons, from 2018 to 2022, where he held roles such as Director of Cricket and later, Head of Global Development. He will now fill the mentor role at LSG, a position that was vacant last season after Gautam Gambhir, who was the mentor, left to take on a similar role with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Under Gambhir, KKR won the IPL title, while LSG finished seventh in their third season.
LSG’s Coaching Team
Currently, LSG’s coaching staff includes Justin Langer as head coach, with Lance Klusener and Adam Voges supporting him. However, the team does not have a bowling coach, as Morne Morkel, the previous coach, left to join the Indian men’s national team.
Zaheer Khan’s Playing Career
During his playing days, Zaheer was a key bowler for teams like Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Daredevils. Over ten IPL seasons, he played 100 matches and took 102 wickets with an economy rate of 7.58. His last IPL appearance was in 2017, where he captained the Delhi Daredevils before retiring from all forms of cricket.
